...what are we gonna do with it?
So I'm excited because it looks like TNT has a chick-flick marathon going on this weekend :) If you're not doing anything Sunday, get comfy on the couch with some popcorn, and a box of tissues (just in case) and enjoy an afternoon of completely, cheesey, predictable...but oh so enjoyable romantic comedies.
1.Hitch - I just finished watching it, and I laughed and laughed as if I was seeing it for the first time again. Will Smith and Kevin James were adorable. I love the dancing scene, and the kissing scene when Kevin James flings his inhaler on the ground. The first time Will Smith and Eva Mendes kiss...aaahhhhh. "Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it's the moments that take your breath away."
2.Wedding Planner - Matthew McConaughey, and J.Lo make a cute couple in this movie. I haven't seen it in ages so I can't remember any fun scenes. All I know is I watch it every time its on tv. I have no idea why I haven't bought it on DVD yet. Its a keeper. ps - All you Greys Anatomy fans Justin Chambers (aka Dr. Alex Karev) has a small part
3.Kate and Leopold - Hugh Jackman - 'nugh said!!!!!!!!!
4.My Best Friends Wedding - I've watched this movie a million times, and each time I hope something will change and Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney will end up together :(
5.Wedding Date - Dermot Mulroney GETS the girl this time - I love happy endings
6.Somethings Gotta Give - I didn't want this movie to end the first time I saw it. Its just beautiful :)
Now if this was my chick-flick movie weekend I would add just a few more movies to the list.
The Notebook - I cried big crocodile tears when I read the book, and I cried even more when I saw the movie. "oh Noah"
Someone Like You - my favorite Hugh Jackman movie (I should buy this one too)
Love Actually - This movie is amazing and wonderful and delicious!!!!!!!!!!!! My heart broke into a million pieces when Andrew Lincoln showed up at Keira Knightley's door with the Christmas Carole music and the big cards telling her about his "wasted heart". "To Me, You are Perfect"
Pride and Prejudice - The BBC version with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. There is no better love story than Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen was a genius, and she will always remain my favorite author.
Everyone needs a good chick-flick once in a while.

Hey I'm not sure about everyone needing a good chick flick once in a while..unless each one in everyone is female!
Not to say chick flicks aren't good movies, a lot of them are.. I watch anything and everything, can't get enough of TV/movies, but some can get downright soppy, silly, and like you said, predictable! Give me sci-fi, suspense, comedies, action flicks (those with a serious attempt at a plot) over chick flicks anyday..
I'm sure there's a feel-good factor in getting all teary-eyed, snot-nosed over them somewhere.. All I can say in that case is, bawl your eyes out this weekend!
Oh Cyril, have you seen "love actually"? That is a love story with something for everyone.
What is your ALL time favourite movie then? Lets see if I can agree on your movie choice :)
Oooh, all time favourite movie..the ready answer would be The Matrix (the first one, obviously)..mind-bending, thought-provoking, entertaining..I actually like all three Matrix movies, but the first, as is usually the case, was the best..
But seeing as we are talking chick flicks, romantic dramas and such..I can't think of any of those actually.. I do vaguely remember watching "love actually", can't recall specifics, so it can't have made much of an impression, can it? Hugh Grant was in there somewhere, right? I do remember the bit you spoke of, where it seems the bloke doesn't like his best friend's fiancee when he actually loves her to bits - something like that anyway.. :)
To be fair, I watched it only once, whereas I watched the first
Matrix movie upwards of 20 times (yes, 20! initially a bootleg version that fit on CD (watched that the most, I think), then at the movies a couple of times, then got a copy of the DVD)...practically know the dialogue verbatim! It deserved all the Oscars it got...soundtrack (both music/score and sound effects, I mean), special fx, you name it, it earned it!
Another flick I really enjoyed that took the spot of the Matrix temporarily in my attention (before I watched it again!) was the Incredibles, the animated film by Pixar..watched that almost as many times..another fave, the Japanese SquareSoft movie Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, strictly for the quality of the graphics, animation and sound - the story's pretty thin, maybe some of it gets lost in translation - i also love the sound of Japanese, even tho I can't understand squat! Hooray for subtitles! One of the reasons I liked the Last Samurai..
Now, if we talk dramas, with a bit of action in there for good measure, you can't beat Braveheart (Mel Gibson) and Gladiator (Russell Crowe), for me anyway..
Still too 'fantasy' for you, can't relate to my choices, not relevant to daily life, perhaps? How about 'Crash' for a 'real' movie, if there is such a thing? I liked the Usual Suspects with 'Kaizer Soser' (played by .. wat's his name.. he played Lex Luthor in the recent Superman movie - I forget..I'll remember eventually, probably when I'm doing something totally unrelated!) I liked some of those british mob-type flicks, like Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels (not as much as I liked the one where Brad Pitt acted the part of an Irish gypsy boxer with a serious brogue..can't remember the name right now..)
That's just a smattering of some of my fave flicks - I have loads more, but none of those with heavy emotional overtones make my list - sorry! Maybe if I think a little harder, i'll remember some chick flicks I thought were pretty cool, but if I have to think about em, they can't be favourites, can they?
If I have to watch one, it had better at least have some serious humour/comedy in it, as a saving grace...
I can only agree with "Crash" and "Gladiator". Your other movies I just either haven't seen them or they didn't make a great impression on me.
So going according to your taste, what did you think of "FaceOff" with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage? It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Another fantastic movie is "Momento". LOVED it!!!!!!!!!! You have to see it.
Sorry, been a little 'offline' for a while, only just saw your reply to my last comment .. over a month ago!
I agree - FaceOff was brilliant.. never got to watch Memento but the reviews made it sound like something I'd like.. the one with 'Trinity', Carrie Anne Moss and.. wat's the dude's name? Can't recall.. A little bit like Payday but more visceral.. ok, Payday isn't the best analogy but it's the only one I can think of where the dude forgets his past..alright, they're nothing alike!! You've watched Payday with Ben Affleck, right?
Anyway, I love all of Will Smith's sci-fi flicks.. ok, almost all of Will's movies! from Independence Day to the MiBs to I, Robot.. even the Legend of Bagger Vance with Charlize Theron and 'Mr Jason Bourne' hisself.. Haven't watched Ali though.. recently watched the one where he acts with his son, the name escapes me for the moment..
Ever watch the Big Hit? I always confuse Matt Damon with the dude who acts in this flick, don't ask me why.. he acted in Shooter too, as the sniper who gets framed for assasinating the president.. of an African country (sharing the platform with the US president at the time..)
